I am a blessed man,

I live and run a business in town, a very small sustainable landscaping 5 days a week. I have a 5 acre ranch that I work on during the weekends, with a friend of mine, which is 45 min away. The in town business has funded installing a 1 acre permaculture food forest ongoing install, as well as paying off the land(I put 1/2 down with money from somewhere else).

So, with my youth and my good friend, I am able to work 7 days a week. With my business, I am able to fund projects that will start making money on the homestead in the next 2yrs, 5 yrs, 10yrs, etc

I have started a nursery out at the ranch as well. We are building a greenhouse to root out cuttings for sale. We have invested in an asparagus patch and a berry patch. Looking to make small batches of beer and other alcohol, "sell" it to friends.

Does anyone else have a similar set up? I have been doing this or about 2 years now, would be interested in hearing of someone who has done it longer. It works so well for me, although it is time and money to go there and back each week.

I have done it for 45 years.
The travel time of 2 hours for me is relaxation and thinking time, not lost time.

Is your plan to brew beer and other alcohol on a commercial scale? Years ago I looked into making honey wine on a commercial scale and it was eye opening.

In Growing FREE we talk about the THISTLE strategy which we believe most people who’ve been successful at creating Permaculture livelihoods follow.

The first T stands for Transition, meaning having a transition plan from the old economy to the new economy. Sounds like you’ve got a great plan!

I think most people who end up successful do some version of what you’re doing. Glad you found your way!
