I grew a quince from seed saved from a fruit grown at my old place.
This year it produced its first, single fruit.
Unfortunately, it suffered rather badly in the fire.
This photo was taken on 26th August last year.
I picked the fruit and kept the seed.
Then on 7th October, just six weeks later, we noticed this!
New leaves, and flowers!
I was delighted, to say the least. But as it was October I didn't really think much about it except to be glad that it was such a survivor.
But then a couple of days ago, on the 14th January, I noticed this...
All the leaves dormant for winter, but three little fruit have managed to form!
I think I'd better go and pick them to see if there's any more seed to save, and make some stewed
apple and quince for tea.
I'm beginning to realise why the
owl and the pussycat packed slices of quince with them when they sailed off together - I bet there were seeds in those slices!
