I heard Paul mention on his podcast that sunchokes might be allelopathic. Did anybody notice such a phenomenon with their sunchokes?
I have a stand at home, but it was kind of in the corner by itself, so I never really noticed detrimental effects on other plants. I will have to pay attention this year as it is getting closer from the veggies.
I have noticed that they are at least a bit allelopathic.Even the dried stalks seem to inhibit growth of other plants. I am thinking of chopping them up a bit and using them in the garden path this year. Sunflowers are, so it makes sense.

They seem to me to supress the growth of annual weed seeds, but not perennial grasses, bindweed, nor thistles.
