Any ideas on discouraging them from doing things to drain the lake... ?? The dam is large clay berm, and it would take a while injure it, but sometimes I worry.

If I had this problem, I would add some wire mesh or chicken wire just under the surface along the shoreline.

Some smelly plants like rosemary or French marigolds might help also.

Good ideas, thanks. that would be a lot of smelly plants, I'll also look for some wire mesh/fence, i think chicken wire might break down too fast. So far they are mostly hanging out by the elderberry bush end of the lake,

I'd second the wire mesh for a quick fix on preventing digging.

A more labor intensive but more permanent would be to add stone to discourage digging in the spots you don't want them to dig.
