With my future build, I intend to drill a well prior to being connected to the grid. I found this possible solution, which I think is pretty gosh-darned cool.  It doubles as a "grid is down" solution once I am hooked up to power. There is always also the hand pump that can be installed on top the well cover as well.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Instead of the expense of a well, have you considered rainfall collection?
My signature takes you to a permies topic on the subject.
With groundwater shortage, pollution and expense of drilling it may suit.
One trick is to have a large storage tank rather than a 200L barrel, the bigger volume allows settlement of fines and cleaning of the water by contact with the air.

It wouldn't help from a well, but ram air pumps can move water around property without electricity

William, ram pumps need flowing water to operate.
A nozzle pump, not sure of name, using a blast of air across a pipe that draws water upwards.

What could go wrong in a swell place like "The Evil Eye"? Or with this tiny ad?
