I am constucting an 8-inch system.

My heat riser is 100% refractory bricks.

I will use horticultural perlite and clay slip for heat riser insulation.

My question is this:

How hot does the tempature inside the barrel get, not the heat riser, but the barrel. Because im looking to wrap the insulation in something that will not fail. Will fence wire suffice? Or do I have to use something thicker.

Dunno if this is useful but the only temperatures I know come from the Wisner's 8" Cabin RMH plans:

Flame path: 1200-2800 F
Barrel surface: 200-800 F
Masonry surfaces: 60-90 F

For those plans they use wire mesh to hold the rock wool insulation and said it "was holding up fine." You'll probably get a more definitive answer from one of our resident experts.
