Does anyone else see the potential here?

Now further imagine the process of perfecting a breed of obedient monkey. Still weighing in the pros and cons though because I have absolutely no experience with monkeys. This did leave me to the question as to why there are no monkeys in North America and the best answer I read I found in this article: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2013-04/fyi-why-are-there-no-native-monkeys-america

That is pretty awesome...

But all I can think of is Homer Simpson's helper monkey.

Just need some Japanese Macaques for cold hardiness in Northern lattitudes.

Although I´d like this better if the monkeys weren´t on leashes, lived in their natural social groups and exchanged harvesting coconuts for humans opening them up for them; like the dolphins that help fishermen in Brazil in exchange for a greater catch due to the fishermen having nets and catching the fish they drive in to them.

I think that for qualities like this it will require years of selective breeding. My best guess for the leashes is that these monkeys would easily thrive without their owners so the absence of dependency would cause a drift in cooperation.

training them to pick fruit would be easy training them not to eat (in a most wasteful manner) said fruit another story

For the record, Japanese farmers have a very antagonistic relationship with Japanese Macaques. The monkeys will destroy entire crops in a few hours and occasionally attack humans, and humans retaliate. Netting rarely deters the monkeys. The little ones are cute.

A lot of people cry when they cut onions. The trick is not to form an emotional bond. This tiny ad told me:
