I wonder, if you lived on a boat... could you keep a flock of ducks and let them free range during the day but return to an on-deck coop at night by training them with feed? If so..... that might be a game changer for me!

I imagine it would be easy enough, if they have space on your deck to rest, dry off, and relax, and a ramp to get from the water to the boat. Ducks don't spend all their time in the water, though. They do need a dry space to nest, raise their young, and eat bugs & green leafy things.

Besides foraging(which makes them very happy), another thing is they poop. A LOT. And it's bigger & grosser than you'd expect, and very slippery, if you accidentally step in it, so you'll want the places they're welcome to go to be very easy to clean, frequently. Like... several times per day. The more I think about the logistics of it, the less I'm inclined to recommend it.
