My partner and I are looking for community, or maybe a homesteader who would like some extra hands to help.  We've been off grid for almost 3 years, and have rented an acre at the back of an old 30 acre farm to build a little homestead on while we look for the right community of people to join.  We'd ideally like to be in the mountains, and have found that we really like Tennessee,  although we're open to other ideas.  We've recently acquired a small family of first generation mini lamanchas for goat milk, cheese, butter and yogurt.  They will be ready to kid in the spring, so we're hoping to make a connection before that.  We're self sufficient and come prepared.  When we find our ideal spot, we'll get chickens and bees to add to the party.  We are 100% not freeloaders and want to contribute to a healthy safe tight knit group.  I love gardening, foraging, wool spinning, worm raising, food preservation, reading and board games.  I study herbal medicine, sound therapy, yoga and qigong.  I'm writing a book to be published this year.  We want to learn cob/adobe building and my guy is interested in carpentry and milling.  Anyone looking for land partners, help, etc?

Hi Sharry,
I just saw your ad and was wanting to reply. I have 327 acres in the Zuni mountains, just  30 miles south of Gallup, New Mexico, and at an elevation of 7,000 ft. I have been thinking about starting a community and have not figured out the right business model/ structure.

That I do realize it takes people and figured it may be a good thing for us to talk as I believe you have given this more thought than I have.

A little bit about me.. I live with my wife. We have been together for 18 years. I spend my time as a consultant during the day. And rescue wild horses ( Navajo Mustangs) but I'm not working.

The ranch has 2 wells so we have a lot of water. The house we live in, another two-bedroom two-bath house that we rent out, a barn for 4-6 horses, And some sheds.

Please let me know if any of this is interesting.

Paul

Hi Paul, I'd absolutely like to talk.  I'd be happy to communicate here if it makes you comfortable, or I can share my email since permies has zero privacy, and maybe we can arrange for a video chat at some point.

I'll be looking forward to hearing back.  Feel free to ask any questions that haven't been answered in my post, I am an open book!
PS, I have a very close friend who also rescues horses and donkeys as well from the BLM!

Hello, permies. I'll add here that I was recently traveling nearby and met up with Sharry at her current land project. In our brief meeting I felt that she has a genuine heart and hardworking persistence.

Hi Sophie!  I've been thinking about you!  Thanks so much for saying this, I felt the same about you so have definitely been keeping you in mind should the right people and place present themselves.
Recently joined another fb page you might wanna consider, I believe it's called intentional communities.
Also, if you wanna Email me, I was offered an interesting opportunity that I think I might pass on, but the woman I spoke to is very sweet and needs someone who won't take advantage of her.  It may not be for you either, but it might be worth checking out, I'll tell you about it and the reason I'm going to pass, and share your info with her if you wanna chat.  Hope your summer is going well

I  am very interested in speaking with you. I currently live in a city in Ohio and my lease is up in June. I was just getting ready to post something of my own in community hoping to find a place to settle.

Would love to chat. I have business experience, some marketing, lots of growing and learning of regenerative methods. I have an entrepreneurial spirit a heart of gold and a willing attitude. I'm quite adopt at cooking and cooking healthy food to boot. I even have a YouTube channel.

At 67, I  am ready to be in a place where I can put down roots, have some security and people around me that have the same goals and desires.

Hi Sharry,

It sounds like you might be a good fit just about anywhere. I know it's a long way from Tennessee, but if Southern Oregon is at all on your radar, maybe we can talk more. I have some Off-grid forestland outside the town af Ashland.

Good luck in your search,
Leaf

Another faraway offer, but if you're interested in starting from scratch a in pinyon/juniper forest in SW Colorado, hit me up. Very informal, no expectations of rent or workshare or whatever, just collaborating on things that make sense and keeping to our own business when it doesn't. So far it's just me, but there's been a few interested parties who may come out at some point this spring/summer to check the place out. PM me if you have any questions or want to arrange a time to come out. In any case best of luck finding your spot!
