Established 2010 in Southern Maine. 9 acres in the woods with large gardens, greenhouses, chickens-ducks-rabbits, and a wood products on-farm business. Cabins with kitchen & bathroom for extra housing. Outdoor kitchen, root cellar and other out buildings. Have worked with helpers, mostly through wwoof, for many years. It's been a joy making so many close connections with intriguing folks. Our season runs latter April thru mid November. Work here includes maintenance/construction work along with the gardening, food preservation and animal work. Preservation includes freeze drying, dehydrating, canning, fermentation and root cellaring. Additionally, helpers always love digging in to building picnic tables for our business. We gladly share our knowledge and try to tailor the work to the helper's areas of interest. And the learning runs both ways. We highly value life-long learning around here. We're open to stay lengths between 2 weeks and all season, and find long stays especially benefit all parties. We encourage helpers to enjoy the beauty or Maine and work with folks to have time off for exploration. Located near the Saco River and ponds/lakes and have a canoe on site.

Get in touch if you'd like to explore the possibilities! PM me and we'll get on the phone and chat.

Ahhhh--sounds absolutely wonderful!

Lived in Cape Elizabeth for a few years, met my husband in Maine--I envy anyone who can join you this summer/autumn in your excellent enterprise. Best wishes to all of you!

Sounds like a nice spot. I'm not in a position to do anything along those lines, but if I'm ever in Southern Maine, maybe I can stop by and say "Hi" real quick.

Hello!

I realize we are a bit later to respond, and you may have already connected with someone else but wanted to reach out just in case. My parent and I (30F 31M) are looking for community. I will post more details below. If this is something that might line up with what you are looking for we'd love to connect with you!

Committed couple in their early 30’s looking for a long term homesteading community. Ideally looking for a space that offers an off grid living arrangement (cabin, tiny house, yurt, etc) where we can stay. Our desire is to build strong, nurturing relationships, help steward the land, and raise a family based on principles of intentional community.

A little background on us:

She has previous work experience in farming, animal husbandry, vegetable and cut flower production, canning & preserving, milking goats, bee keeping, making salves and tinctures, candle making, and building permaculture based garden plans. She is interested in learning more about self sufficient activities. Specifically she would like to focus on harvesting and spinning wool, hand quilting, trapping, butchering, and carpentry. She loves to learn and would be open to any and all opportunities to share knowledge with others.

He has a background in education/research, Wampanoag lifeways, hide processing, wood working, farming and traditional ecological practices, and experience constructing traditional Wampanoag structures. Able to provide homeschool programming, curriculum, instruction, and assessment across disciplines as well as provide experiential learning opportunities for the community. He is interested in learning more preservation techniques, cordage processing, and other areas of land-based skills practiced by his ancestors. Being an educator, he also loves to learn and looks for ways to reciprocate that elsewhere.

We are looking to find a community in the Southern Maine/Mid-Maine region. Our idea would be to share in the community, help out with caretaking, and develop an equitable cost sharing plan. We come with a friendly 6 year old golden retriever and would love to set up a meet and greet in order to build connection and determine good fit.

Hello, were you still looking for help? I'm disabled and have to walk with a cane, and suffer chronic pain. But I would love to learn how you do things, and if you don't mind having a permanent lawn hermit, I wouldn't mind moving in. I just need a quiet corner for my RV (it's falling apart and needs repairs I can't afford quickly on disability income and I need an address to receive healthcare and keep my disability income legal and updated...lots of technical issues). I use it as a dry camper and really just need a roof over it for the winter, insulation, a covered porch space... Would love love *LOVE* to convert the wastewater tanks to a biogas system to use to power my camper. But until then I'll need to use a shower house and bathroom outside of my camper, everything else I can struggle with on my own I guess.

I'm a fiber artist and am handy with making things that work, such as reusing scrap fabric to make bags or crocheting ropes or nets out of basic yarn. I also like making hats. :3 I don't mind helping with work, provided you're ok with me being a little slower on my bad days due to, you know, health issues. The work would still get done, just a little slower. I swear I'm not useless ... D;

I would love to have this opportunity. I would be so thankful to learn such a great amount of skills, in addition to my current skill set. Also, the opportunity to see Maine, and all it has to offer. If this opportunity were still to be available, please reach out, I had other plans, but this chance to do the work I have never done before, in such a beautiful place, for a season, would be amazing. if you would like my resume, please email me at hw_whitetiger@yahoo.com. Thank you so much for your time.

Hi! I am interested in hearing more about the work day and housing options. I am a 50 year old gardener, hardworking and experienced.

Is there a commitment length? I work at blue seal feeds and have homesteading knowledge and experience.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Laura
