I have recently purchased a 120 acre piece of land in an agricultural region within the St Lawrence county in NY State. There are 90 acres of woodland, 20 acres of grassland and 10 acres of wetland. It hasn't been well looked after as it has been used for hunting and recreation since the late 70's.

My goal is to create space for an open community and develop the land using principles of permaculture and sustainability. However, this is at a very early stage with the current building (an old hunting lodge) needing work to be suitable for year round living. There is also a barn (in rough shape). By next year I plan on replacing the lodge by putting in semi perm buildings to support 3-4 people using composting toilets, PV with a generator backup for electricity and a biomass system for heating / hot water.

A forester is currently putting together a land management plan.

I am looking for like minded people with experience / education in the following fields: permaculture, forestry, sustainable farming and sustainable energy to help with the phase 1 of planning. Suitable people would need to be willing to make a commitment to the community and it's plans.

Funding for work will be tight but available with one of the first goals being to setup the accommodation and off grid services as described above. Following on from this will be to execute the land management plan along with setting up enterprises, on a profit sharing basis, that will generate revenue to fund community activity and to support the resource needs of it's members.

If this sounds of interest please feel free to contact me for more information. Also go to my blog https://www.facebook.com/groups/303586799778388/
