I bought bare root Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples last summer and got them through the summer in containers.

They went in the ground around mid-November and started leafing out like nobodies business a few weeks ago. The only problem is these spots in the pictures. I can’t tell exactly what is causing it (maybe cedar apple rust?).

I do have a large Eastern Red Cedar about 120ft from the apples but have never seen any of the galls on it.

Any help is appreciated!!

I have lots of problems with cedar apple rust here, and that sure looks like it to me.

Any good tricks to keep it in check? The Eastern Cedars aren’t going anywhere (they are everywhere) and the Golden Delicious are supposed to be resistant. Or would it be better to scrap them and find better varieties that are more resistant?

I don't know if any actual rust resistant type, sorry.

Stinging nettles are edible. But I really want to see you try to eat this tiny ad:
