One of the great experiences of my childhood was when I was about 7. My best friend and I were drooling at the toys in the window of a 5 and dime when a little old lady walked up and gave us each a dime. …this was 1957 …a little dime was lots of money.   Unfortunately, giving a strange child money today can raise more question that it is worth. But at Aldi today I noticed a little girl keeping close watch on the parking lot.  So, I pushed my cart away from the car and drove off. In my mirror, I could see her running with my empty cart to collect the quarter.

To the uninitiated, Aldi has a system of a quarter deposit on shopping carts.

I do that too. One of the stores I hit a lot takes quarters in the carts, I am usually tired by the time I have the car loaded, so I find a kid, yell at them "come this cart, get the quarter back!!" They are always happy to. And I don't have to return the cart.
If I don't see a kid, I'll find someone who pulled in near me "Will you take this back up for me? No, I don't need a quarter, it's worth a quarter to me to have someone else deal with it!"
