I had an unexpected success yesterday - some little 'easy peelers' that I brought home from the shop as getting a bit old and then forgot about. Rather than going mouldy, the skin had dried to a brown leather. So rather than chuck them, I cut one up and it was perfect inside - slightly darker in colour and the taste was wonderful! Sweeter, still juicy, and with a ripe flavour you never usually get in fruit these days - maybe this is how they are supposed to taste? You couldn't peel the skin off the whole fruit, but by cutting in segments the skin peeled away quite easily.

My sil buys dried orange slices to put in the cocktail called Old Fashion.

He gave me some slices that I added to my glass of fruit juice and one slice lasted a week.

I've never trusted a dried whole one, but I'll try it now, on purpose!
On the other hand, I dehydrate citrus slices, for later use, often -- lemon, lime, and orange. I use them in water, or powder them for flavoring dips, salsas, frosting, cakes...
