According to snopes, not photoshopped, but story inaccurate. Here's the link:

Also, this was an early, working title for the motion picture "Traffic."

you found it! now we know the real story (most likely)

I take issue with the idea stated that a mountain lion could "easily kill a mule" at least a full grown one.  in the wild lions generally take foals and yearlings from my understanding but a full grown equine is one heck of a prey item. I have only heard of attempts at full grownequines (such as when trailriding) when the lions where under intense pressure.

I have personally been "stallion bit". not nipped like most people think of when a horse "bites". I had teeth marks half way around my thigh, it was a big black bruise the size of a large dinner plate and I still have some kind of damage from it in that my muscle (what is that... your quadricep?) on that side is not physically symetrical with the other leg.  a few years back in the news there was a story of a stallion who jumped the fence and killed a boy. took off his arm.  there was a horse at work that hated dogs. I watched a german shepard creep into his paddock. the dog was standing off to the side and back of the horse's right hip (eating poop ). the horse raised his head with his ears pinned while watching the dog, stood up on his hind legs spun almost completely around and came down striking with both front legs simultaneously. it narrowly missed the dog only because the dog saw it coming at the last second. aggressive/ticked off equines are nothing to fool around with!!!

Oh man...been there done that with the horse biting thing.

I was still getting to know my horse when I did something not to smart and got myself bit...HARD!

I had saddled him up and noticed the martingale loop was too far over to one side (where it attaches to the girth). So standing facing him, I bent down and pulled the strap over and in the process, pinched him. Being thin skinned and sensitive, he pinched me back with his teeth! It was the dead of winter & I was wearing 4 layers. A thermal top, under a flannel shirt, topped off with a down vest under a down coat. I still ended up with a painful black bruise on my shoulder blade, that took months to heal. Had it been summer time and I'd only been wearing a strappy tank top, I'm convinced he would have taken a chunk out.

Never underestimate the power of an equine bite! Yeowch!
