Howdy folks... Been lurking here enough lately that I figured I should probably start up an acct...

I'm 38, always been sort of an independent/diy'er my entire life, and been increasingly obsessed with the idea of off grid living and homesteading. Chains and thumbs make me claustrophobic

I currently live in a larger house built in 1916 and have gone as far as I can reasonably go with regards to making it as comfortable, livable, and energy efficient as possible, but i've realized it's still a long way off from where I will be happy. I dream of a smaller, super insulated home with a tight building envelope, and all the cheap/free and environmentally friendly technologies and resources I can get my hands on.

I'm most specifically interested in ultra low cost hvac, power generation (solar thermal, micro-hydro, steam? etc), and aquaponics. I'm sure others will come up as I plan my dream homestead
