michael; I used lincoln fire clay on my cast core, mixed with perlite ,refractory cement and fiberglass strand . I used matt walkers "plans" to form up my core and my heat riser , everything worked great. Using a piece of sonitube as a sacrificial form for the heat riser was by far the best way for me. Only recommendations i will make are to make sure you have enough fireclay & perlite on hand before you start pouring or like me you will run short in the middle of your pour and have to do a cold joint in the middle of your core .
