JOEL SALATIN, "LUNATIC FARMER," COMES TO ASHEVILLE!
We're thrilled to welcome this "High Priest of the Pasture" as a guest instructor at our April Permaculture Design Course! Salatin, a self-described “lunatic farmer,” raises livestock using holistic management of animal husbandry, free of harmful chemicals. He is featured in Michael Pollan's book “The Omnivore's Dilemma” and the documentary film “Food Inc.” Salatin emphasizes the need for people to learn to grow their own food: “The first supermarket supposedly appeared on the American landscape in 1946. That is not very long ago. Until then, where was all the food? Dear folks, the food was in homes, gardens, local fields, and forests. It was near kitchens, near tables, near bedsides. It was in the pantry, the cellar, the backyard.”
