Are you going to be creating just annual beds, or are some of these new planting sites going to be planted with trees?
Thanks Zach,
Right now I am testing several different options. One thing I like about this system is the lack of need to weed a section. You simply let the weeds grow to harvest and they are more food for the
chickens.
I know that they planted trees in the
video, but since my neighbor is feeding the birds I have a continual source of fertilizer for the plants and I intend to leave what is not needed like me taking the turnips and leaving the greens for the
chickens.
So, I am thinking the best plan here is to get crops that I can re-seed heirloom, in the time it takes to go full circle on all of the grid locations.
I intend to enhance each area with
biochar and the nutrients that are missing as my soil test what is missing. But combining the polly tunnels behind the
chickens is a great idea gives extra protection to the new seedlings I plant and help them to germinate. I believe an upperstory crop of mulberries directly over the chickens would be a huge bonus, will have to consider planting them like that.
This is a good system, I am now trying different crops to make it an even better system. I may goto just radishes as they are fast and I can harvest the seed off them quickly. So many options
