I figured I would just start in the cider press because any replies about other practices may end up here.

I have some friends that own a welding/fab shop. We have developed a friendship over 14 years of working on projects together. They bid on and win some interesting opportunities in their trade.

Recently I asked what new contracts they have received. They told me they had been awarded one from one of the big pork producers. One of the ones you'd see on the label in large grocery stores like WM.

The job was reinforcing the lower 4' portion of the walls on shipping containers. They also were repairing older reinforced shipping containers. This nationwide producer has a contract with some top snack cracker and junk food companies. They pick up all the expired foods and put them in the containers. They feed this to the pigs.

It dawned on me and I confirmed with them that they do not remove the individual plastic packaging.

I was always taught that we should take care of the animals under our protection. It astonishes me when I hear things like this (it shouldn't, but it does).

Junk in, junk out. Shout out to all the local food producers who give options where you can go see how your food was grown.
