Yesterday I posted pics of an herb spiral I creatted and today I wanted to post a horse trough ( how's it spelled?) Bed I'm working on. I'm have three projects I'm working on this summer as an intern. The lacal youth detention center, department of corrections, and a local church. I going to be teaching youtth about basic gardening skill all the while I want to teach as much permiculture as I know. For tthe record I think our criminal justice system is fucked but if I can encourage just one or two youth to pursue small scale permiculture practises I feel it will be a summer well spent. So with out any further blab here's a few pick of the bed I'm working on. I lied more blab real quick I have also encouraged planting more perinials maybe one day the detention center one day can have aspect of a food forest.

Layed a bit more rocks, layer of rotting wood I found on site (ask and you shall receive), layer of wheat straw with bone meal mixed in ( I didn't have a high nitrogen source but if you reapeat this bed it would be good idea to mix in blood meal or a good nitrogen source), a layer of newspaper (don't be mad Paul), and two inches of compost but we are getting another load of locally sourced compost to add four more inches.

I had a team of 6 to 12 yr old girls waiting in line to be the next peerson to use the hammer while the othe kids played kick ball. It was nice to work with people with enthusiasm ( I need a phone with spell check). We were builing bed with salvage lumber from the site.
