I am sooo discouraged. There are so few houses on the market and every time something comes out, it’s already sold. I don’t get it. I’m really trying to find alternatives like buying land and living in a car. Has anyone ever found an Otis to buy their land from? I’m just looking for a small dry place where I can plant a garden and have a yard for my dog to run in. I’m looking in north of Montréal Québec and it’s been ridiculous.

When my sister in law passed away, we had multiple offer for over the asking price.

It is a house flippers market.

Do you check the ads in Permaculture Real Estate:

https://permies.com/f/163/real-estate

It would be fun to find an Otis ...

This website is a lot of fun: https://countrylifedreams.com/. Nice mix of fixers and affordable ready to live in places, with the occasional impossibly expensive splendid manor.

I also enjoy this one, though the properties listed don't always have much land to play with. Exclusively cheap options around the country.

Really wish I had known about these when I was first looking for place a decade ago.

Those are darn cute and inexpensive. Most I can find in my area are over 1hr away drive from work. Wish we were still able to wfh, would simplify things a bit.

I'm wondering if any local governments in Canada have something similar to tax default auctions that many/most US counties run annually to recoup unpaid property tax by selling delinquent properties via online auction? It's a good way to pick up exceptional land bargains, but requires a fair amount of practical knowledge and due diligence to assess (and avoid pitfalls).

And these are Cash sales ....

In the USA these a posted at the local county Court House.

I would image Canada has something similar.

Also another tidbit of info is that most Real Estate websites have an option to email folks new properties that match their criteria.

Now days most properties sell within the first 16 days, or so I have been told.
