Raney, dug a ditch much like in this video then added as much organic matter as they could find to the land as it was being drained.
Tree limbs, leaves, logs, scrape lumber, then on top of that they unrolled bales a hay to top the top of the soil.. Then the plan was to run cattle on that area.
Raney showed how he could now walk around that area without sinking into the mud.
It is amazing what can be done with earth moving machines and organic matter.
Anne, it really is amazing. I have been more & more drawn to sharing permaculture with others. And I realize that I don't have to (or
need to) know every aspect or detail of permaculture--simply b/c PC is so subjective, in the sense that no two spaces are exactly the same, even if they border one another. So I had to step back and embrace the fact that I DON'T "know it all" and see that as a gift rather than a defect.
This video, unexpectedly, helped me to realize that it isn't about knowing, it's about being open to the wisdom & guidance of Mother Earth. I know that. But my interfering logical brain sometimes gets in the way of this. And today it just stuck, it isn't ME that makes the changes, its me who listens for and accepts the wisdom and acts on it. If that makes any sense.
I want to take permaculture OUT to my community, share the wonderment & excitement of it and empower others to act in their ways. --Tess
