Hello,

I currently live in Colorado and am involved with multiple permaculture organizations in the Pikes Peak region. However, I have been thinking of moving out to North Carolina to be closer to my family and also have work all year round for my trade (Irrigation). The winter can be devastating for me financially sometimes...

I was thinking about renting and becoming a part of a permaculture community or possibly joining an off-grid community that offers housing for labor or something like that. I would like to move near the western region of NC or possibly Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia or Kentucky.

At this point, I am just looking around and gathering info. I don't plan on moving out there until late fall/early winter of this year, after I can get another season of irrigation under my belt to generate some savings.

Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

IF you get down and want some input, I'd say look over the geology to get idea of soils and rains or NC regions. Then the book "Carrots Love Tomatoes" is invaluable. Especially if can find a early copy like 1972. .I think it was written and formatted so much better then. . . Sign up for piedmont region Farm tour and hit the botanical gardens at UNC-CH, Duke, and NC State. Bests!
