I have the sense that blizzards used to be more common. We came to Minnesota 22 years ago and listening to the old-timers, it seems like that's the case. Anyway, we've been through a couple, but this one is kind of special. It's hard to tell how much snow has fallen because the wind is making it extremely uneven. But it doesn't seem like that much and the weather service says we've gotten 5-6" and expect another 2-3". But it's all driven sideways and piling up on the logs of our wall under the two foot overhang in a way that it normally doesn't. It keeps drifting up against the storm door on our main entrance. Visibility is supposed to be half a mile, but I can't see the street from the house, at least sometimes and that's just ~100 feet.
Minnesota Department of Transportation places us in the "do not travel" part of the state:
When I was living south of Walker in the 80s we had two big storms a year. The first was in November. The second was in March. In between the snow would blow, but relatively little new snow would appear. It sounds like this might qualify for my March storm.
I learn from the mistakes of others who take my advice.
