I am new here and looking for like-minded folks who know what is going on, who are actively building alternate lifestyles that are natural, away from all the EMFs, and into herbs and growing their own food, while being excellent stewards of the land we occupy. I am located in western North Carolina. I don’t know if this is how the introduction works or where it should be listed, but here goes.

Hi Casey - welcome to permies!
Some of us are like minded, but we all agree to differ if necessary
You'll soon get the hang of how the site works, start a new thread in tinkering with this site if you need any help (there are useful links at the top of that forum page)
You mention herbs, are you particularly interested in herbs for health?

Casey, perhaps give a few details of the land, location, soil types, rainfall , that will help growers.
Also aspirations about housing, water supply, I encourage rainfall collection for domestic use and any earthworks you have in mind.
Others can then give ideas.
Enjoy the journey.

Nancy,

Thank you for your response. Yes, I am interested in fresh herb cultivation for health, to add to recipes in food and teas. I have recently discovered that the bulk herbs and spices sold in stores are not necessarily very fresh. I have had success with growing basil, but usually not with many other herbs. I was growing them in pots on my deck, though I am no longer in that situation. My goal is to find land or a community where I can grow crops for survival, versus going to the grocery stores where everything seems to be tainted and very rarely fresh.

Casey

Basil is one of the herbs that I struggle with growing! I think I get the watering wrong (we're too cold here for it to grow outsied, even in summer) Luckily I'm mild enough in winter that many mediteranean herbs will be happy outside in a well drained situation, so rosemary, bay, sage I can grow. Mint really loves my damp climate, and marjoram too seems to do OK (and the butterflies really love the flowers!
Some herbs will be happy on a windowsill, at least for a while.
I hope you find a 'forever home'.

Welcome to the forums.

Like Nancy, I have never had any luck with basil.

Rosemary grows like a weed ...
