I have been thinking, I really like this SKIP program idea. I like the potential of earning badges toward something and I love the skills to be gained along the way. My children are getting to the age (the oldest is 8 ) where I would love to start them off with some more basic BBs, alongside my trying to earn some again (the first time I was discouraged by the technicalities, but I want to try again). For them, I'm not thinking in an "official" sort of way, but more in a self-discovery and equipping with real skills sort of way. Maybe sort of like a Permies boy scout alternative?

As far as converting this to a homeschool curriculum for my own children, here are some of the ideas I have:
I was thinking of starting off by converting the BBs into a more tangible interface for them to see and understand the possibilities of what they can learn and where that could lead (this might help myself as well). I can see this being a great one-on-one sort of activity, but also I think it would be really cool to have a SKIP CO-OP sort of thing in my area eventually. I would love to figure out a way to "gamify" the process (which SKIP already has a bit of that feeling going for it) with some sort of incentive or badge system. I wonder if a certification could be an apprenticeship sort of set up (starting at around 13-16ish?), while serving in a lot of ways as a review for the BBs that were accomplished in the younger years?

I am wondering, what advice would you all give me about this? What ideas do you have? Have any of you done anything like this?

I don't know if anyone is actively doing this now though here are some previous threads that you or others might find interesting:

To earn PEP Badges, each child would need an account and be required to show they did the work on their own.

Thanks for the resources, Anne! I will browse those some more and see what there is.

I hope your project goes well—I think the more good quality homeschooling happens, and the more energy put into that, the better!

Yes! Thank you for that thread as well. That one seems like it has had some success, and I like what I am seeing there. In thinking about SKIP as being a great replacement for "higher education", I do wonder what possibilities there might be for investing in at least the basics, in an organized manner, from early on and what might be able to produce in a child's well rounded education. Me and my wife were both homeschooled ourselves, but one of the things we really want to invest in that we feel like we could have got a lot more preparation in was the REAL things of life. The gears are turning!
