Did you experience temperatures above about 27–30°C / 80–86°F?
High temperatures reduce pollen viability.
If flowers are exposed to prolonged heat, they may still produce pods, but the embryos fail to develop, leaving the pods empty or containing only tiny undeveloped peas.
Another frequent cause is water stress. Peas need consistent moisture during flowering and pod filling. If the soil dries out at this stage, the plant may abort seed development to conserve resources. The pods continue to grow, giving the impression that they should contain peas, but they remain empty.
