David Blume's Alcohol Can Be a Gas! — Original 2007 Edition — New Old Stock
I thought this might be of particular interest to people here.
Back in 2008 I was sufficiently interested in David Blume's work that I arranged for him to come to Kaikohe in Northland, New Zealand, where I met him personally and subsequently purchased 475 copies of his book, Alcohol Can Be a Gas! — Fueling an Ethanol Revolution for the 21st Century.
I thought the time was right for what Blume was proposing.
As it turned out, I was rather early!
Eighteen years later, I still have a substantial quantity of those original books.
The unusual thing is their condition. None of my remaining copies has ever been opened or read. Many are still in their original unopened protective wrapping.
I also still have approximately 20 of the original shipping cartons, each containing eight books. The cartons carry their original publisher/shipping labels, including the ISBN 0-9790437-7-8 and the original US$47 cover price. The cartons themselves have naturally acquired some wear after 18 years, but the books inside remain unopened.
The book is the original 2007 paperback edition, 596 pages, ISBN 978-0-9790437-7-2.
I recently rediscovered this stock and was surprised to find that there is still considerable interest in Blume's work. There are current discussions about the book and its ideas here on Permies, and the book is still being discussed and promoted in the wider permaculture community.
So I've decided that it is probably time that some of these books actually found their way to people who are interested in the subject rather than continuing to sit in storage!
I am offering copies to people in New Zealand for NZ$69.95 each, including postage anywhere in New Zealand.
I have a substantial quantity available, so if anyone is interested in several copies — for a group, project, course, community or simply to distribute among interested people — please contact me and we can discuss a bulk price.
For anyone interested in the history: yes, I really did buy 475 copies in 2008. I clearly had rather more faith in the timing of the ethanol revolution than events subsequently justified!
But I'm still interested in the ideas, and after all these years I'd much rather see the books being read than have them continue to sit there like mummies.
David Blume — Alcohol Can Be a Gas! — original, unused, unopened 2007 edition.
Questions welcome.
