Shepard's Hard Cyder is located at New Forest Farm in Wisconsin. The master cider maker is of course, Mark Shepard, author of Restoration Agriculture.

They are trying to raise $20,000 for equipment so they can increase production. The bulk of it will go towards a new 314 stainless steel bright tank where the final blending and carbonation of their ciders happen, and the rest towards additional equipment and materials.

The idea is that they can become a major player in the craft cider industry and influence the way cider apples are grown.

You can help them by supporting their Indigogo campaign HERE

I spent a week with Mark in June and their cider is better than any commercial product I've ever tried. Cider for life might just be worth it. Also, in line with what Paul said in his dailyish, they really are kicking butt and getting things done. Watch for new opportunities out there!

$500 for a personalized mug and free hard cider refills for life! New Forest Farms is about an hour and 20 minutes away from me. Tempting...

I probably don't have to say it but Mark is the real deal. I hear the cyder is excellent (I don't drink any alcohol.) I had my first Intro to Permaculture with Mark seven years ago. His farm is about twenty minutes from my home. I've been there to plant trees, dig raspberries, prune hazelnuts, celebrate birthdays.

His boys went to the same school as my son, and Mark has always been generous with the school, roasting chestnuts at the holiday fundraiser and leading the design and installation of a large greenspace that replaced an asphalt wasteland.

You won't hear about it from Mark, but he's having health challenges right now. Paul, you probably want to wait a bit before doing a podcast with him. Let's support his indiegogo campaign, because he's helped so many people discover the promise of permaculture, and kickstarted many a business for his "interns."

I'm such a sucker for math. Lifetime of anything is normally worth it. The buy it once / buy it for life crowd has it right. Semi infinite (who wants to put a date on their own demise?) reward for a fixed cost? Oh i'll take that deal all day. Remember Cheers? I could be Norm. You could be Norm. Norm and not having to settle up the bar bill. That sounds.... totally awesome even if one only stops by a few times a decade.

Maybe I'll get "Norm" put on my cup...

I wonder if Viola has a nice retirement home stumbling distance from the farm. Maybe I should review my plans in light of this new semi infinite resource. I'm totally stoked.
