I'm a big fan of thermal flues and similar tech. Especially when combined with the thermal concentrator concept (basically a reverse radiator that concentrates solar energy into heat, powering the convective forces).

Cheap, simple, passive, effective. What more could you want, yeah?

I used the robot to generate this image of a thermal flue for use in a residential home, the design concept being passive cooling.

Now, if you wanted to get really fancy, you could combine this tool with the "amish air conditioning" concept and, assuming you created an underground passive system with enough air volume, you could keep a home cool in the summer pretty straightforwardly, passively, especially with good insulation values.

NOTE: The image is, as mentioned, robot generated. Please take it as a rough outline rather than a finished design.

In terms of "amish air conditioning," you could actually connect that system directly to a thermal flue in order to significantly improve performance.

Is this an aspiration, or do you have a similar system in operation now?  Is low humidity in Utah a prerequisite for this system to work well?

Chance, have you read the topics I created on the middle eastern air towers?
