Hi all. Permaculture newbie here. I have become greatly interested in rocket stoves, and rocket mass heaters. In conveying my new found hobby to my father-in-law, I seem to have piqued his interest as well. Our question is this, we live in the Stevensville, MT area and we were wondering if there were anyone with a working RMH nearby (Say within 50 miles or so of Missoula) that would be willing to let us come out and see it in action. Thanks in advance.

Jim Barnes : There is nothing wrong with your location, you are in the Eye of the Storm as it were, But your timing leaves a little to be desired, things are
a little busy right now with getting ready for a ''RMH Masters workshop'' at the Wheaton labs just now !

A couple of suggestions ! Go to Video Villiage.org and look for a series of videos 'Thermal Mass Rocket Stoves with Ernie Wisner, this should connect you
with a series of short videos showing about 5/8ths of an upscale build done by our moderators Ernie and Erica Wisner, This shows of a Dvd that is for sale,
It has one of the best production values of any Rocket stove Build, and qualifies for eye-candy !

At the top of the page where it says permies >> forums >> energy >> rocket stoves, click on the "rocket stoves'', this will take you to a page
of all the past and present Rocket stove listings, newest 1st !

About 1/2 way down the page you can click on 'video: great rocket mass heaters in upstate N.Y. and Quebec' the 1st video is of a woman who has just lived
through her 1st winter of using E & Es Daybed style Rocket Mass Heater RMH, hopefully these will set you up nicely for your future Home/ RMH tour !

For the good of the crafts, hope this was useful and timely, Big AL !

Thank you sir. I'll certainly check out those video links. I am currently saving up to purchase a copy of "the book" as well as the videos. I kinda figured my timing was poor with the big goin's on at the Wheaton labs. I'll do the video thing and maybe when things slow down a bit ( I can hear Paul laughing hysterically in the back ground) I can squeeze a peek in. Thanks again for the advice

Hi jim ; I'm in trout creek ,a little farther than 50 miles , it's 110 miles to missoula (apx 2 hrs) and stevi is another 30 beyond that , so about a 2.5 hr drive and you can come see mine. I just finished a rebuild and with the 45 degree mornings I have been burning it a little each day, not because i need it ... just because its rebuilt and i want to run it !

If you're willing to come to Sandpoint you can see my way out of the box heater. Fully described in my thread.

Thomas thanks for the invite, I spoke with my father-in-law and that sounds like a trip we'd like to make. He said he'd like to wait till it's a tad cooler so he can "feel" the warmth as it were. So if you're still willing, I will be in contact in the near future. Alan-thank you also for the invite, we might take you up on it the next time we head to Spokane.

Let's get him boys! We'll make him read this tiny ad!
