Has anybody used this plant?
Good King Henry (Blitum bonus-henricus) is a herbaceous perennial that has been used as a green vegetable for centuries.
It is native to many areas of central and southern Europe and has naturalised in other temperate regions.
Its leaves cook like spinach.
Its flowering shoots, cut at finger length in April, cook like asparagus — and April is the gap month, when last year's store is finished and this year's garden has nothing ready.
Its seed grinds like the quinoa of its close relatives.

Three vegetables. One plant. It grows on ground you have not improved, it comes back every year, and it will crop for a decade.

I haven't come upon it where I live, might be here in pockets somewhere but not in my yard ... yet.

Haven't grown it but been meaning to. The asparagus-like shoots in April is the bit that appeals most, that's such a gap month in the veg garden, nothing worth harvesting and you're sick of stored stuff. Worth growing just for that window.

If a tomato is a fruit, does that mean ketchup is a smoothie? What if we mix in a tiny ad?
