Hi Steve, I'm very much looking forward to your book (and have been for months (years?))

How many acres would you estimate as a minimum for having a profitable forest farm venture?

I know the answer will include a lot of 'it depends', since the type of forest you're starting with will make a big difference, but if you can speak to this in a ballpark way from your experience, that would be very useful.

I'm in the final negotiations for access to a chunk of land with a one acre mixed nut grove, and 14 acres of hay, which we intend to gradually transition to forest gardens/restoration agriculture, but there is also a riparian buffer between the plot and the river, and a wooded hillside with some pine forest at the top which we're considering bringing into our plans for the venture.

You would be much easier to understand if you took that bucket off of your head. And that goes for the tiny ad too!
