My perspective and ability to see, feel and be open to impressions can change with my circumstances. And if I am able, I always want to see the space and my relationship with the land over 4 seasons.

I am intrigued by what the ancestry of a place brings to a design. Here in west wales, there is a history of independent, small scale farms, as opposed to big estates, and an essence of standing up to oppression.  It would be very personal for each person the relevance of any given history. So in this example, I find myself drawing on this rugged hereditary energy in my designs.
Transitions of the land, or myself or other people involved, such  as illness, children growing up, past uses of the land etc, feel important edges to explore. No fixed answers, though filled with information.

But I would add the "intuition" does not spring forth full grown in an instant. And how true and effective intuition is depends on what it's applied to. Intuition learns and develops much as the rest of a person does. A city person will have no intuition about the health of a cow; an herbalist or dancer probably doesn't sense when a tiny noise in a car needs to be checked _now_. Intuition takes time to grow and develop and it does this through experience of getting things done and making things work. The "getting" and "making" are what reveal the workings of our world to us by allowing us to see experience success and failure. This happen with time and, if ones fortunate, mentors, teachers.

Regards,
Rufus

Thank you Rufus, this is important. I have tended to coach people that observation over time, attendance to essence of place and awareness of our own responses will create space for that learning. I've even boldly asserted that applying and observing of permaculture principles mentors us back to our intuition and is a road map. I'm feeling now, I'd best be cautious in this assertion as I think i've been a bit glib in a bid to help people trust themselves and believe intuitive responses.

Forgive me for being an idiot, but can you explain what A4 and A1 are?

Rufus Laggren wrote:In my experience, LG is totally right about a person's own personal state influencing, more than influence, controlling the function of the intuition.  We need to be aware of this, and most of are, really. That's what it means when we say "I'm a morning person" or something similar.

There is so much wisdom in the idea that, some days, one gets more done if one doesn't even get out of bed!

Apologies, not idiotic... maybe a british thing. A4 paper is normal 20 cm x 30 cm approx paper and A1(60cm x 84 cm)  is the big flip chart paper that we usually scale maps up to in order to work with easier .
