Hi, Jay! The acid is what deepens the color from orange into the reds & auburns. I was using some pretty pricey, organic, super-fine stuff, back then. I stopped using it for several reasons, but mostly because of my physical limitations, and I just didn't care, anymore. Still don't. At 60, I'm fine with my fading red.

Side note: You're braver than me - I always wore old tshirts. Wouldn't dream of getting henna on my leathers & patches. My Harley is on my profile - I couldn't crop it right, though.

I built my first Harley in 1975 and rode it for twenty six years- also added a couple to the collection along the way. 1942 WLA, dead stock except it was black, gold, silver and a ton of chrome. Gun scabbard, ammo box, leg shields, blackout lights, canvas fairing. Eventually added sidecar and reverse gear. My first cutoff was just an old denim jacket minus sleeves. I lived at home with my parents- I offered to move out a number of times as there were old vacant houses on the farm, but my folks said it didn't make sense as I worked on the place with Dad anyway. The point I'm meandering towards is that my mother did my laundry. One day while I wsas at work she decided she couldn't stand the stink of my cutoff any more and she threw it in the washing machine. It came out almost white and falling apart- even took the enamel off some of my fafvoiurite Harley badges. I was horrified. To make it sooo much worse, the next weekend I rode two hundred miles to meet up with biker friends in Kings Cross in Sydney- the red light district- but we only went there because it was great place to park and show off a bunch of nice bikes and keep an eye on things. I arrived at ten O'clock at night and while I was still sat on the bike waiting for a parking spot, one of the fellers stepped out into the street, pointed at me and yelled Jays Mum washed his cutoff!  I parked the bike to cheers and applause and almost died of embarrassment Gawd that was a long time ago!

I've never built one. But, I've had my share of embarrassments, to be sure, lol!

I believe we've totally derailed this thread, and ought to get it back on track. In that vein, my hubby's hair is long, and his beard is getting there, again - it's all white. Think Santa. He doesn't tie it back, though I'll occasionally do it for him. He used to keep it buzzed, back when he was working in food. I did it for him, after we got engaged, and still trim it for him, occasionally. I do almost all our trimming, except when I'm in the middle of something, and he wants it done-right-this-very-SECOND.🤣

Instead of tieing it back, he'll just put on his shirt over it, if he's going to be doing things that make it hazardous. I don't know how he tolerates that - a single hair trapped inside my shirt, against my back, and I'm screaming,  "FREEDOOOOM!!"

This seems like as good a place as any to dump this- my wife buys whatever shampoo and conditioner happen to be on special. Last month she bought "L'oreal Elvive". The shampoo is shiny green. I washed my hair and it actually felt cold in an unpleasant way on my scalp, like it was too strong or something. Went to bed shortly after and started to itch- my neck, face, chest, belly and thighs, but by far the worst was my hands and the heels of my palms- the itch felt like it was way deeper than just skin. A terrible, sleepless night, got up still itchy and with spots and welts and a rash. The wife bought me some sort of antihistamine- one for hay fever I think- and it started to calm down hours later. I googled it and a bunch of people have had similar reactions to that shampoo. It sucks.

I'm in the let'r'grow party, and by the time you're reading this I'm 72. I don't know why, but I lost the front half of my hair in a month a couple years ago, so caps fit better now, and what's left of my hair is white. I ponytail it or let go wild. Kinda wild. The hair keeps some of the sun off my neck, and I have a big cap and hat collection, (plenty are locally crafted.) I keep my beard trimmed- I tried letting 'er grow, but I don't enjoy eating beard mixed with lunch. I found a small cordless trimmer and trim a lot. I actually decided to grow a beard When I was a kid and we were doing the Montreal EXPO, camped in a pasture, with 1 sink & mirror for 60 vehicles worth of guys. My dad was in the line to shave, and an East Indian guy with turban-style head gear stood behind looking over the guy's shoulder, took out some small scissors, clipped a few errant beard hairs, smiled at everyone and left. THAT made up my mind. My gear is a small mirror, a natural bristle brush, and a Swiss Army knife w/scissors. Two years ago all the hair on top for'd of my ears fell out, so caps fit better and are required to avoid sunburn.but I can take a bandana and be a pirate, but I'm not piercing my ears, in case I get lucky and find a woman who nibbles ears. So my newly exposed ultra forehead has some possibilities come Halloween I'll be exploring, and brushing my hair is way faster now. What's left of my hair stays just long enough to touch my shoulders, and is kinda flying wild when not tied back.

Rick we were heading into a club in Sydney for a family gathering and walked passed a group of hipsters near the door. One said Cool Beard! I said thanks. Another said Bit old to be rockin' a pony tail aren't we? I looked at him and thought first up it's a plait, not a pony tail, and second- I've had it for twice as long as you've been alive so mind yer own.
I got my left ear pierced the day before my girlfriend and I flew out to a wedding in Fiji- I was 21. The nice lady who made the new hole in my face said turn the stud regularly to keep it free. Several days later, swimming in water as warm as a bath in the hotel pool and my ear was red and swollen and the gland under my jaw was swelling up. Tried to get the little stud out of my ear but the clip on the back was jammed on at an angle and the ear was swollen and really painful. Finally my girlfriend got it out for me while I whimpered like a two year old. I'd been turning the stud as ordered- and I'd managed to wind a strand of my own waist length hair around it which I'd been turning inside my ear. Last year a woman stopped me and said I love that dolphin ear ring! I said thanks, but actually it's a claw from a road killed six foot goanna. She didn't want to continue the conversation- some people are weird.

Growing up I had always wanted long hair, but both my mom and the hairdresser said I looked soooo pretty with shorter hair, I never got my long hair. So naturally the moment I left the home I grew out my hair! I have worn it long ever since.
But I am thinking of maybe going shorter again. I have such extremely fine hair, I feel shorter hair may give it a more full look.
But! I don't like going to the hairdresser. So I'll just stick with my long hair for now.

Trace,

I highly recommend. Tell her it's so comfortable and cool in summer - makes everything hair related easier. Less to comb, less products, less to dry. I was worried it may feel itchy but it does not. If she does not like it, it is really easy to cover until it grows out.
