Looking for an OFF GRID community or land (10 acres) heavy tree’d for building of 25 x 30 log cabin in northern Ontario MUST be in unincorporated township. 43 years old with work experience in log and residential construction, plumbing, electrical, some knowledge in livestock and some farming experience. Basic gardening, hunting, fishing and trapping. Jack of all trades. Can provide all my own building materials except trees. Looking Currently on disability due to depression issues but want off the system and doing this will give me the motivation I need. Been camping and hiking every year since I was a kid. Not deluded in how much effort this will take as I have done this as employment already. Will to learn or share any knowledge I can. Plan to install solar PV system and or micro-hydro system if creek/river or lake is right. 2 acre garden and maybe some livestock in the future is also possible. I would prefer a community so that someone is around with things that would otherwise be impossible, but land is also good, I can plan for doing the jobs myself. I would prefer a free land lease with all assets reverting to the land owners property after death but I don’t plan on that for at least another 40 years. All building will be done to building codes, but I don’t want to have to deal with building permits with exception of cistern and septic system. I have been a journeyman electrician, general labor for construction companies, have run my own computer store and am currently writing an Almanac of modern and pioneer homesteading book. Grew up on a farm and helped with horses at the Fort Erie track with my sister that lives in Alberta .
