Freezing veggies- containers

I think I'd rather freeze than can a lot of the harvest we'll be getting. Beans, peas, corn, carrots, etc. I'm wondering if there is something other than ziploc bags I could do this in. Ideas?

are you wanting to use something that can be reused more often, or possibly wanting to avoid plastic? I think your reason for looking for alternatives would affect what sort of suggestions I would give. You can get stainless steel freezer containers and also glass ones if you are avoiding plastic. if you don't mind plastic you can use plastic freezer containers, zip lock bags tend to take up the least amount of space and for me are the easiest to get all the air out and prevent freezer burn. there is also the fancy systems for packaging stuff for freezer in plastic that is vacuum sealed. I guess I was hoping to use something just a bit more sustainable than ziploc. Though I am considering one of those vacuum seal systems as well and those use plastic. So I guess I'm not really sure. I feel like freezing in glass jars is just asking for freezer burn though. What kind of glass containers do you use?

sometimes I use glass jars, I had a lot of the largest ones break though. I am uncertain if I did something wrong or if it is the jars not doing well. I froze pureed pumpkin in them and it was well cooled first and I put the lid on after the contents froze solid so that there would be space for expansion. I have frozen things in smaller jars and if they were well packed or if it was something with a lot of liquid I did not have any problems with freezer burn. I am no expert at freezing and don't know much. When I have spare ones I use glass containers I got someplace they have plastic lids that snap on and keep out air and can go from oven to freezer supposedly although I have never tried that. They work well but are expensive.

there is also freezer paper which I have never used and I don't know if it can be used alone. it might be worth looking into though.

I've only used freezer paper with meat. It works to an extent. Not for long terms. I find if you plastic wrap then freezer paper it lasts longer.

I use the plastic restaurant takeout containers (like you often get for soup, cream cheese, etc..) - the restaurant supply places usually have 3 sizes and lids that fit them all (a reuse concept ziplock or rubbermaid will never latch onto!)
They can cycles through several times for soup, applesauce, berries, veggies, pet food... plus they stack and keep freshness better than bags..
They do break when abused, but can probably last 10 uses with some care.
Since they are sold in tubes of 50 for restaurants, they are very cheap )15-20 cents..)
