Hey!
I hate eating before a workout, I usually get up at 5am and jump right into my workout a few minutes after. I feel totally fine during the workout but lately I have been wondering if I should eat a small snack before my workout for benefit of my body. I am just afraid I may be sluggish during the workout.

If people work out in the morning, do you eat before your routine? How long after you eat do you start exercising? Is it better for our muscles/body to have food/nutrients in it as we exercise?

Thanks!

Howdy Thanh, welcome to permies. I always have some cereal and milk with a banana in the mornings. I wait about an hour then do my workout. I am not sure if that is right or wrong , just how I do it.

Hi Thanh. Many people in the Paleo/Low carb community work out while in a fasted state. Some professional athletes are starting to go this route too.

Not sure how this works if your still a "sugar burner" but for more info check out Marks Daily Apple or Peter Attia's Eating Acedemy and http://robbwolf.com/blog/ is another good site.

I prefer to do my day's work without eating at all. That way I can use the constant energy from my stored fat to fuel the work, and I don't have to worry about the highs and lows of a carbohydrate or sugar fueled workday. I don't have to take lunch breaks or snack breaks. Then after work I'll enjoy food for a few hours before going to bed.

When I was dependent on white flour and sugar I had to eat or my blood sugar would crash. Now that I am cleaning my food and body, I don't need breakfast at all, and am much more resilient about eating schedule all day.

You sound like you are doing fine now. Don't take a step back.
