I am fairly new to garden planning, but my significant other and I are slowing working our way from a home garden to eventually having a homestead. As of right now we are living in a apartment and will be moving to a house with a garden space in April. I would love to get a head start, like starting indoors, as soon as possible so we take full advantage of this growing season. Does anyone know of a good way to go about this? Maybe a small covered and lit place to start seeds that wouldn't be too hard to move? I am looking through Seattle Tilths book on PNW (I live in Seattle) and I see a decent amount of plants to start in Feb and March that could possibly be ready for transplant or pots by April. If not, do you have any other suggestions on being as ready as I can be by the move? We really hope to produce as much as we can of our own food.

First some questions.
What is the plot like where you are moving to? Is it already a garden or will you have to "build" the garden before you plant?
What is the soil like? How much sun/shade will the garden get?
What is the growing season like in Seattle? ( In my Wyoming gardens I only had 4 good months to grow things and I planted most things from seed in the garden.)
I am just wondering if you might be starting seeds and then loose them before you are ready to plant?
I would say anything that you can start 4 weeks before planting you can start now (of course taking into consideration how long it will take to prepare the ground.)
I moved from an apartment to a house a couple months ago in E Washington, and am currently starting my seeds in my basement, same way I used to in my apartment living room.

The garden will be already made, raised beds. Ill have some in the shade and full sun. The soil is actually really great! The people who are currently there built the beds but have yet to actually put anything in them.
I havent actually started any seeds yet, but I thought I could get a jump start by ordering and start some now, especially anything that I would need to start indoors for better growth anyway
I would focus on cultivar selection ones that do well in short day florida might go to flowers in april/may in seattle. A cherry tomato that matures in 50days might give you a good harvest before the drought sets in vs a beefsteak that needs 200days.
With a zone 8 aka 8month growing season and winter temp in the high 40's once a month in the 20's and once every 5 yearsin the teens. I would say all your veggies can over winter and thus can be started inside the sent outside anytime during the winter after a sitting in the unheated garage/stairwell/covered porch.
I would start fruiting veggies like tomatoes/peppers now and get a sweet potato slip going.
