Starting a Series of Seed Company Profiles

For those of you who were wondering where I have been the last little bit, I had a sliced pair of fingers that made typing a bit difficult. Even now it is a little painful to type. Still, I didn't want to wait any longer than I had to for starting a new series on my blog. The bandages have come off and so I have begun. Every Monday for a while, I will be doing a profile of seed companies that I feel people should know about. I considered starting off with one of the bigger companies out there, but after a recent experience with Ohio Heirloom Seeds, I just had to start with them. I've been blown away so far and spent an hour interviewing the owner to be able to offer a little extra information about the company. I hope this proves to be useful information to anyone who decides to read it. Rather than opening a new post for each entry in this series, I will just post another comment here. Another Monday, another entry. This time it is the Seed Savers Exchange. I debated including this one since it could easily have become a powder keg of issues, but I did my best to approach it fairly and evenly. I went so far as to clarify at the end why I think it is a company everyone should know even if they fall on the side that is against the decisions that have been made. Anyway, feel free to read it if you are interested and comments are always welcome.

This week's profile is for a company I am sometimes shocked more people don't already know about. Wild Garden Seed has developed all sorts of new varieties and their products also appear in the catalogs of other companies pretty frequently. I am all for sending more people to the source itself. Some of the varieties they have put into this world are amazing and I wish more companies were doing what they do on the same scale they are doing it on. I hope you take the time to read over the information and give their site a good look. Order the catalog while you are there. They are a great company.

I forgot to add last weeks over here, so I will do both in one entry. Last week was High Country Gardens. For those of us living in dryer areas, this company is an amazingly helpful one. They focus mostly on lawn plants rather than food varieties, but it is still worth a look.

This week's is a new favorite on my list that I only found thanks to one of the other members here at Permies! I am so glad I know about them now though and am very pleased with what they offer. I haven't received an order yet, so don't talk about the seed packets or delivery times of course.
