John Suscovich of the Growing Farms Podcast is about three months into his Farm Finance Challenge where about a dozen farms are sharing their financial numbers on a monthly basis. While there are a couple outliers, most of the farms are relatively small or only have a fraction of their land in production and it looks like several of the farms at least follow organic practices. Additionally, many of the farms are tracking their hours so it is shaping up to be a great resource for people interested in starting a small farm.

Even though there only two months of data have been posted, there are already some great nuggets of info such as how much it costs to hire a farm sitter for a week to watch your pigs, or what small farms are paying for general business and product liability insurance.

One day a chicken crossed a road and nobody questioned the motives. Thank you tiny ad.
