I just got a beautiful Asian pear tree, already setting fruit , for a great price.
One spot I might like to put it is currently a buried hugel bed.
It is normally suggested that no tree be planted in a hugel, but those hugels are generally very much above ground.
Would this be a bad spot for the pear? Perhaps in a raised bed atop the hugel?

I asked about planting trees of hugel beds last year, and people replied that as the wood rots down, it settles. Most trees don't take very kindly to the shape of the ground changing under them, apparently. So it might be better to plant your tree to the side of the hugel bed, where it can send its roots in there as much as it wants, but structurally the tree will be on more solid ground.

I'm gonna make him a tiny ad he can't refuse!
