One sees lots of things made from recyled pallets but pallets are often exposed to really toxic chemicals and are often nearly impossible to disassemble. I recently had to move some mattresses out of my moms 2nd story home by myself and stripped down the box springs so I could cut them up into easier to move pieces. When I saw the wooden frames and supports, they wonderful raw material they represented saved them. I used one to make a wall in her garden, soon to be covered in vines, the other is a roof for a trellis that will also be covered in blackberry and melon vines.

Just thought I would share as I hadn't seen anything about repurposing them.

I disassembled an old sofa a couple years ago; it had some great pieces of wood in it too. My husband made our son's bed frame with it.

I have used the wood and the heavy wire mesh. It's similar to pig wire. Makes a very strong tomato cage.

I made a fence of the box spring wires to keep the porcupines out from under the cabin. Not the prettiest but effective.

An old set of box springs will do a good job of leveling and smoothing out loose dirt when pulled behind an ATV or lawn tractor.
