Hi folks,

I found this documentary fascinating, informative and uplifting. The speaker puts global poverty in perspective and shows us that our preconceptions about extreme poverty are wrong. Then he goes on to show what has happened to people living in poverty since the industrial revolution and highlights that massive changes in living conditions can happen very quickly, and in much of the world have already happened. Back in 1850 around 90% of the global population lived in severe poverty - that is they worried about being able to feed their families through the year - and now that figure is down to about 10% and rapidly shrinking.

I have found it on BBC iplayer, but am not aware of a link from outside of the UK. If anyone finds one please share it, as it is great.

Thanks Eric, unfortunately that is only a 2 minute clip and not the whole hour long documentary version.

I almost did the same thing and posted the population one. I have taken to using the "preview" button to make sure I am posting the right thing and not that other thing.
