Youtube shows two billion videos a day. Mostly about celebrities and obnoxious jibber jabber. This is because teeny boppers have figured out how to get videos onto the main stage of youtube, so, the main stage of youtube is dominated by mindless drivel. If you want to help change the world, you need to learn just a few small things to get the videos you think are important in front of more people.
(the numbers I provide below are my own estimates based on what I have learned about how youtube works)
1) subscribe to a youtube producer. This not only helps to make you aware of any new videos this person comes out with, but it boosts their videos
enough so that each of their videos will be seen by about ten more people. So if you subscribe to a producer with 100 videos, you have caused 1000
video views by other people.
2) "friend" a youtube producer. Same impact as #1 (in addition to #1), only this time, any videos you publish will now be more likely to get views too.
3) thumbs up a video. This will lead to about 100 more views of that one video. This has more weight in the firs 24 hours than any time later.
These last two things have the most impact during the first 24 hours, and no impact after seven days:
4) add a video to your "favorites". If enough people do this in the first 24 hours, this could put the video on the "most favorited" section, where it could get another 500 views, which could be enough to put it on the main stage where it could get 100,000 views.
5) add a youtube comment to a video. If enough people do this in the first 24 hours, this could put the video on the "most commented" section, where it could get another 500 views, which could be enough to put it on the main stage where it could get 100,000 views.
60 seconds of intelligent effort on your part could influence the viewing of a thousand people. Folks might see one less video about paris hilton and one more video about
permaculture
