Hello,

I am doing research in the process of buying a camper van. I intend to have it converted to LPG. In the long term I hope to have an anaerobic digestor in my home and am wondering if anyone runs an lpg converted vehicle on biogas collected from their own digestor?

Hagop Matossian :A Late Welcome to Permies.com, and our sister site Richsoil.com. With ~35,000~ Fellow Members World-wide

you can come here 24 / 7 And find someone who wants to talk about what you want to talk about !

Both Liquified Propane Gas LPG, and Liquified Natural Gas LNG, adapt themselves (regionally ) for Vehicle Conversion and use by Persons or

Companies that spend almost all of their time driving fixed routes or Very close to a Central supply of 1) LPG or 2) LNG - BUT Not Both -

The reason is that each has different Amounts of potential heat energy per Volume and each must be sized and jetted differently with different

volumes of air to deliver the similar potential horse power !

This is going to create a couple of problems with your long term goals !

1) The gas produced by your biogas digester is basically a "Natural Gas" and would need to be Compressed -by you into its Liquid Nat Gas LNG

state in order to be suitable for the Range of conversion kits out there !

This means a Van conversion To LPG will only work poorly at best for you.

2) The Equipment to attempt to compress Natural Gas is very expensive and would require you to become a major supplier of LNG

to your neighbors, and proper zoning which would require you to maintain a Safety Buffer of unoccupied land around your compressor

and other equipment ! It would certainly put you in day to day contact with Bureaucracy and the man !

The number one spot in the world for Biogas production and use in the present time is India. Generally in this almost perfect location the food scraps,

and other Bio-solids produced by a family of 4 is sufficient to supply all or most all of the cooking gas needed by that family with some possibility of

Burning Your Biogas to produce additional lighting ! *

To provide your digester with additional Material to generate more gas ( un-liqufied Natural Gas ) Requires some further processing and disposal.

Good luck and good hunting ! For the good of the crafts ! Big AL

* Both solar cookers and haybox cookers can be used as additional tools to economically extend your cooking gas's many functions in much the

same way that a Crackpot extends your ability to prepare an evening meal that morning in the very best ''Set it, and forget it ! " Mode .

Hagop M. : While slightly off-topic you may want to look at this system that was designed to work with a Bio-digester -
