I found a great article in Countryside Magazine (the Sept/Oct 2010 issue) about using 55 gallon poly drums (cut in half) as shelter for chickens, ducks or geese.

Nice!

I saw in a magazine once, that some permaculturists turned the municipal compost toter into a chicken shelter: it has an easily-closed door that can be secured with a bungee cord; the door doubles as a roof over the threshold; it can be wheeled around easily once it's tipped up; it is easy to clean with a hose; and of course they aren't putting good compostables out  on the curb.
