In the back of my shop, there is a 2500 watt generator with a blown motor. My boss said I could have it. Could this be used as a 12volt wind turbine (with proper regulation or are the RPMs needed to make a generator core too high for this idea to work? Worse comes to worse, I'll chuck a Harbor Frieght motor on it.  Thanks...Larry

A 2500 watt generator would take about a 5 HP motor to operate it.  To derive that much power from a wind turbine in a 10 MPH wind would require blades about 30 feet in diameter.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.  My luck has been good on this project. But a did have a feeling that this was a no go. I'll size the old motor and pick one up.  Gonna need a generator for final assembly anyhow.  You will be hearing a lot more from me coming up. My prefab/ kit cabin is done, I'm in the process of rearranging my shop for wind, solar water and power and RMH builds. Thank you Larry

If you two don't stop this rough-housing somebody is going to end up crying. Sit down and read this tiny ad:
