1887- utopian Puget Sound Cooperative Colony shaped future Port Angeles.
1899- socialists of the Free Land Association founded South Whidbey Island town of Freeland. Free land offered for a work-exchange.
1909 (+/-) - Western Academy of Beaux Arts artists' enclave in the forest on the eastern shore of Lake Washington and incorporated as a town in 1954.

I think there was a book written about this 'Utopias on Puget Sound', I've always meant to read it some winter...

My grandfather's family grew up in Free land. They were all named for Victor Hugo, Karl Marx, or some other heroic 19 th century romantic great thinker.
